Guest list marketing is the cheapest channel most organizers already have and barely use. Your guest list is more than a list of friends and DJs. A spot on it costs you little as long as the night has room, and it's worth a lot to a promoter: they skip the queue, walk in free and show their circle that they're part of it.

That imbalance is something you can work with. Instead of paying promoters, you reward them with what you already have: spots, credit at the bar and special treatment. This piece shows how to set it up properly.

What a spot is worth to each side

To you, a spot on the guest list is one more name at the door. Unless the night is sold out, you lose almost nothing. Often you gain: the promoter brings friends who pay, drink and come back next time.

To the promoter, the same spot is a night with no entry fee, a quick walk past the queue and a little status. That's real value, and in the scene it tends to count for more than a small sum of money would. Being on the list means you belong. That holds for a basement club night as much as for a bigger venue.

That's the core of it: you give something that costs you little and get a recommendation you could barely buy. How to build a whole promoter circle around that is covered in Club promotion: how to fill a club night.

The three reward types

On Parmo you pick one of three rewards when you create the event:

  • Guest list: a spot on the list, with a +1 if you allow it. The default choice for most club nights.
  • Drink balance: a fixed amount at the bar, in the event's currency. See drink balance in the glossary.
  • VIP: whatever you describe, such as backstage, a table or a bottle. It can include standard and VIP tickets.

Promoters see the reward on the event page under "You get" before they request. Once the first promoter has accepted, it's locked. Nobody signs up for one deal and gets another. The full picture is in Rewards, explained.

Worth saying plainly: Parmo pays no cash and moves no money between you and promoters. Parmo itself costs you nothing either, €0 per event.

Follower bands

Not every promoter brings the same audience. With follower bands you grade the reward by reach, in up to five bands. For example: "Under 2,000 followers" gets a guest-list spot, "2,000+ followers" gets a spot with a +1. So yes, you can reward promoters with bigger accounts more.

The band is read from the promoter's connected Instagram at the moment the reward is released. Without a connected account, they land in the lowest band.

Keep the bands simple. Two or three are enough for most nights. And remember that reach isn't everything: a small account at the heart of your scene can bring more guests than a large one with no local crowd.

Code words and real tickets at the door

A reward is only as good as the moment it's collected. Parmo gives you two ways:

  • Code words: every promoter whose reward is granted gets a two-word code such as AMBER-FALCON. At the door they say it, you search by name or code under Event → Door and tap "Check in". "Copy all" gives you a printable door list if you want one.
  • Real tickets: upload PDFs, images or wallet passes, or forward your ticket provider's email, and sort them into Standard and VIP. Each promoter gets their file by email once their last story is verified. Deliver real tickets walks through it.

Either way, you're not typing up a list on your phone at midnight.

Releasing or withholding rewards

The reward is tied to the story. Every story in the brief has to stay online for the full window, 24 hours by default, checked through the Instagram API. Only then is it released.

With "Auto-release rewards" on (the default) that happens by itself. Turn it off and you release under Event → Rewards, one by one or with "Release all". You can also withhold a reward, but you have to give a reason the promoter reads. A granted reward is final. More in Release or withhold rewards.

For promoters who want to know how to get on the list themselves, there's How to get on the guest list for free. A good link to pass on to your regulars.

Frequently asked questions

Does a guest-list spot cost me anything?

Very little, as long as the night isn't sold out: it's an entry fee you don't collect. In return, the promoter often brings friends who do pay. Parmo itself is free for organizers, €0 per event.

Can I give bigger accounts more?

Yes. Follower bands let you grade the reward in up to five bands, for example guest list for smaller accounts and guest list plus a +1 above a certain follower count. The band is read from the connected Instagram account when the reward is released.

What if a promoter deletes the story?

If the story is deleted before the window closes, it counts as taken down early and there's no reward. The promoter's score also drops, which sets them back for future invites.
